No Consensus On Direct Farm Subsidy

New Delhi: Lack of political consensus has come in the way of the Government’s plans to give fertiliser subsidy directly to farmers, according to the farm sector representatives who met the Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, at a pre-budget meeting here today.

“The Finance Minister expressed his helplessness over the demand of direct fertiliser subsidy to farmers, stating that there is a lack of political consensus on the issue,” The Consortium of Indian Farmers Associations Secretary General, P. Chengal Reddy, told reporters after the meeting.
