Mumbai: It was a volatile day for futures trading in agriculture commodities on NCDEX and MCX. Sugar for January delivery hit the upper circuit of 5.69 per cent at Rs 1,467 per quintal, while the February contract was up 4.63 per cent at Rs 1,490 per quintal.
“The inclusion of Kholapur as a delivery centre for sugar attracted some of the traders’ interest. Stockist and traders were seen buying heavily on hopes of export orders from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh,” said a trader.
Jeera up
Jeera went up 3.58 per cent to Rs 11,680 per quintal on concerns over production due to prevailing cloudy weather in Rajasthan. Strong demand from the international market and cloudy weather in Gujarat and Rajasthan boosted kapaskali futures 2.73 per cent to Rs 417 per 20 kg. Slowdown in arrivals pushed up guarseed futures by 2.28 per cent to Rs 1,749 per quintal.

Weak spot markets pulled down chana futures 0.51 per cent to Rs 2,128 per quintal, while maize lost 0.38 per cent to Rs 778 per quintal.
