Spot Rubber Under Pressure

Kottayam: Spot rubber witnessed marginal selling from traders at higher levels on Tuesday. The market remained under pressure as Japanese indices were on a decline probably on profit booking after a firm start on early trades. RSS 3 declined at its May futures to ¥277.4 (Rs 108.64) from ¥282.1 a kg at TOCOM. RSS 4 slipped to Rs 107.75 from Rs 108 a kg both at Kottayam and Kochi while the trend was mixed as most of the grades ended flat amidst low volumes.

In the international scene RSS 3 spot gained by Rs 1.06 per kg to Rs 113.23 a kg at Bangkok.

April futures weak

On NMCE, the April contract weakened to Rs 106.02 (Rs 106.51), May to Rs 107.20 (Rs 107.61), June to Rs 107.35 (Rs 107.67) and July futures to Rs 107.45 (Rs 107.69) per kg for RSS 4. The open interest was 4,729 (4,826) tonnes. The outstanding positions were 1,802 (1,854) tonnes in April, 1,875 (1,898) tonnes in May, 709 (730) tonnes in June and 343 (344) tonnes in July. The volumes fell sharply to 965 (1,782) tonnes.

Spot prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 107.75 (108); RSS-5: 105.50 (105.50); ungraded: 103.50 (104); ISNR 20: 104 (104) and latex 60 per cent: 72 (72).
