Offerings At Coonoor Tea Sales Increase

Coonoor: An analysis of the catalogues of the different brokers indicates that the volume being offered for Sale No: 6 of the auctions of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) here on Thursday and Friday is as much as 1.1 lakh kg more than the 33-week low offer of last week.

In all, 9.07 lakh kg are on offer. Of this, 7.98 lakh kg are fresh teas. The balance comprises teas remaining unsold in previous auctions.

The volume is some 96,000 kg more than the offer this time last year.

Orthodox

Of the 9.07 lakh kg, as much as 6.44 lakh kg belong to the leaf grades and 2.63 lakh kg belong to the dust grades. Again, as much as 8.24 lakh kg belong to CTC variety and only 0.83 lakh kg, orthodox variety.

The proportion of orthodox continues to be low in both the leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 0.33 lakh kg belong to the orthodox while 6.11 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 0.50 lakh kg belong to the orthodox while 2.13 lakh kg, CTC.
