Support Price Of Copra Raised By Rs 40/Quintal For 2008

New Delhi: The Government has decided to increase the minimum support price (MSP) of copra by Rs 40 per quintal on both the milling and ball varieties.

“In order to safeguard the interest of coconut growers in the country, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the MSP of copra for the 2008 season,” the Union Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, said here on Thursday.

Based on the recommendation of the Commission for Agricultural Cost and Prices (CACP), the Government has fixed the MSP for fair average quality (FAQ) of milling copra at Rs 3,660 per quintal and for FAQ of ball copra at Rs 3,910 per quintal.

“The increase in the MSP of copra is expected to encourage the farmers to step up investment in coconut cultivation and also help in increasing production and productivity of coconut in the country,” Chidambaram said.
