Offerings At Auction Dip

Coimbatore: The total offerings of tea at the weekly auction held at the Tea Trade Association here dipped marginally to 4.85 lakh kg with leaf grades accounting for 1.49 lakh kg and the balance comprising dust. There was fair demand for the orthodox leaf. Shippers to CIS countries operated on well-made Nilgiri high growns and the internal enquiry was limited to whole leaf grades. Though there was limited quantity of the orthodox dust on offer, prices remained barely steady with withdrawals of secondary type teas.

There was fair demand for the good liquoring CTC leaf. Medium and plainer sorts ruled around last except bolder grades, which suffered some withdrawals. The demand for the CTC dust remained generally good. The best liquoring teas ruled firm to dearer by Re 1, the medium plainer sorts remained dearer by up to Rs 3. The orthodox high growns ranged between Rs 57 and Rs 74, while medium orthodox dust ruled in the Rs 33-46 price band.
