Haryana Hits Record In Milk Procurement

CHANDIGARH: Haryana’s dairy cooperatives has set an all-time high record by procuring about 8.1 lakh litres of milk on December 11, 2007, a top official said. Stating this here on Monday, Haryana co-operation minister HS Chatha said that earlier milk procurement during December 2006 had touched a high of 7.8 lakh litres per day against 6.8 lakh litres per day during previous year.

He said that during April-November of 2007-08, the dairy co-operatives had procured 978 lakh litres of milk, against 823 lakh litres procured during the corresponding period of previous year, showing an increase of 18.8%. The minister said that the average price paid to milk producers during April-November of 2007-08, was Rs 15.60 per litre as against Rs 13.65 per litre during the corresponding period last year, up 14.3%.

There has been an increase of 15% in number of procurers during April-November of 2007-08 at 119,475, as against 103,924 during the corresponding period of previous year.

During the current financial year, the number of functional societies increased to 5,480 against 4,627 during last year.

Under the white card scheme, the minister said, Rs 1 lakh loan was granted to milk producer who had supplied milk to dairy cooperatives consistently for three years without any security.
