Coimbatore: The total tea offerings amounted to 5.64 lakh kg at the auction held at the Tea Trade Association of Coimbatore last week, with leaf grades accounting for 1.72 lakh kg and the balance by the dust. There was fair demand for the orthodox leaf grades. Select well made Nilgiris high growns quoted dearer by up to Rs 3 a kg, others sold irregular around last week's level. Internal buyers operated on wiry types. On the orthodox dust category, secondary type of teas was irregular and suffered heavy withdrawals. Good liquoring CTC leaf quoted irregular around last week's level, the medium/plainer brokens remained barely steady, fannings ruled firm to dearer.
CIS exporters operated on the bolder grades and fannings. The market for high priced and good liquoring CTC dust was barely steady with some withdrawals. Mediums sold at firm levels, plainer sorts ruled dearer by Rs 1. The orthodox high growns moved in the Rs 58-76 price band, the best CTC teas between Rs 52 and Rs 58, good CTC dust touched a high of Rs 62 a kg, while the medium Orthodox dust between Rs 33 and Rs 47 a kg.
