Brokens Firm At N. India Tea Auctions

Kolkata: Last week, the CTC and dust markets in the North India auction centres at Kolkata, Guwahati and Siliguri saw an easing in levels following a decline in quality, with only selected better sorts around last levels, according to J Thomas & Company Private Ltd, the tea auctioneers.

The major blenders continued to operate strongly but support from other packeteers was less. Other domestic segments extended fair amount of support.

In the orthodox segment, the whole leaf grades were barely steady to easier at times following quality while brokens and fannings remained firm. The CIS and Middle East buyers as well as the major blender accounted for the bulk of the offerings with selective support from the North Indian buyers.

The Darjeeling markets also witnessed easing in value, once again following the decline in quality. The local dealers were the mainstay with selective support from blenders and exporters.

The North Indian cropping season has come to a close.

In the global scene, the Colombo market was irregularly dearer following active support from exporters to CIS countries and other traditional exporters.
