Steady Trend At Kochi Tea Auctions

Kochi: While prices of most teas at the Kochi tea auction remained steady at last week’s levels, prices of a few varieties eased. CTC dust varieties remained steady, while orthodox dust prices slipped. Good liquoring CTC varieties found support from major blenders. Good enquiries also emanated from domestic market operators. There was 9.52 lakh kg of dust tea on offer at the auction. Best CTC dust varieties fetched Rs 63-75, medium CTC was at Rs 50-58 and below medium realised Rs 30-37. High grown BOPD varieties quoted Rs 88-102, medium BOPD was not quoted and secondaries fetched Rs 30-33.

Leaf sale

Prices of orthodox high grown broken were steady to easier while whole leaf grades remained steady. Medium primary orthodox grades were barely steady. Secondaries were also steady. Prices of medium whole leaf grades were dearer. Exporters were selective on orthodox grades and also evinced interest on orthodox whole leaf grades. CTC varieties witnessed demand from exporters and domestic blenders. Best Nilgiri varieties quoted Rs 82-95, medium orthodox ranged between Rs 41-65 and plain orthodox fetched Rs 38-40. Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 47-54 and medium CTC was at Rs 42-46.

In the dust segment, Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price of Rs 102, followed by Parkside BOPS at Rs 88, Pasuparai SFD at Rs 86 and Pasuparai FD at Rs 84. In the leaf category, Sutton TGFOP quoted the top price at Rs 120, followed by Chamraj OP at Rs 114, Chamraj FOP at Rs 111 and Havukal FOP at Rs 110.
