Quality Tea Prices Increase At Coonoor

Coonoor: Prices of quality teas increased even as plainer teas were difficult to be sold at the post-Puja Sale No: 43 of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) here. Demand was not evenly spread at higher levels to absorb the huge volume of 12.81 lakh kg on offer. Primary orthodox dust grades got good prices and some sold above Rs 100 a kg. Better medium CTC leaf grades fetched more than Rs 4 a kg, while the dust grades were dearer by Rs 1-2 a kg. Broken orthodox leaf sorts got Rs 2 more. Powdery CTC dusts got Rs 3 more. But, whole leaf orthodox lost Rs 1-2. Quotations held by the brokers pointed bids ranging from Rs 30-33 a kg for the plain dust grades and Rs 60-77 for the brighter liquoring teas.
