Coimbatore: The prices of new cotton crop of Shankar-6 variety from Gujarat and J-34 SG from Punjab have lost steam this week. So also the prices of MECH-1/H-4 from Madhya Pradesh.
Shankar-6 is quoted 7 per cent less at Rs 19,000 per candy (355.65 kg) compared with Rs 20,500 during the end-September 2007.
According to Thursday’s price quotation issued by the South India Cotton Association (upcountry spot rates), the prices of J-34 (SG) is down by 6 per cent to Rs 17,623 against Rs 18,760. Mech-1/H-4 (MP) is quoted at Rs 19,000 against Rs 19,800. The price of MCU-5 from Andhra Pradesh slid by Rs 1,000 to Rs 21,000 from Rs 22,000.
Palmolein higher
PTI reports from Mumbai: Refined palmolein inched up further on the oil and oilseeds market on Thursday on sustained demand.
Palmolein inched up by Rs 2 to Rs 459, while groundnut oil ruled steady at Rs 700.
Castor oil commercial moved up to Rs 439 from Rs 438 and castorseed bold closed higher at Rs 2,045 as against Rs 2,035. Linseed oil continued to rule steady at Rs 550.
In the futures section, castorseed December contract closed at Rs 1,982 against Rs 1,991.
