Kottayam: The arrival of arecanut has increased but the quality is not up to mark. Though not encouraging till the other day, the North Indian enquiries revealed that the demand is picking up after the Ramadan holidays in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and so on.
Currently, the price is at Rs 68-75 a kg. But if monsoon is widespread, there could be a lull once again in the plantation areas which might affect the production.
According to the indications, if the inflow continues to b e moderate there is no need for anxiety as the chances of improvement in consumption have brightened following positive reports from consuming and producing sectors.
